CAMPUS APP
Problem: decreased student engagement resulting from distance learning and online-only educational models
Goal: Design and build a central hub combining campus news, student FAQs, email access, and more through an integration with the Campus social platform.
Solution: Conduct user interviews to overhaul the existing site’s information architecture and leverage existing social media patterns to make the platform accessible to distance learners and ESL students.
The product was a social network connecting college students with peers, classmates, professors, and staff while functioning as the student portal for that university. The platform integrates all digital functions of student life with a proprietary social media component unique to Campus..
The role required me to wear many hats and was all-encompassing for the product's UI as well as both UX design and research. The project was a total redesign of desktop and mobile versions of an existing site.
In some instances, content and pages were created from scratch because either they had not existed before or because what was currently offered was outdated aesthetically and difficult for users to use. The work also included creation of necessary-but-missing designs for specific items such as error states, confirmation dialogs, and hover states.
After my initial round of design work was approved by the Product Manager, we moved into testing. The scope of user testing was narrowed in scope to focus on the site's navigation and photo upload function.
